As a pivotal stop on the ancient trade route between Tibet and Kathmandu, Dhulikhel has fostered a unique fusion of rituals, festivals, and spiritual practices that endure today.
Jataka tales are stories about the past lives of the Buddha. In the nearby town from Dhulikhel, Namo Buddha commemorates an earlier existence of Lord Buddha in his sacrificial love to a dying tigress. It was here that the Buddha offered his arm as well as his life to feed the dying tigress so she could feed her newborn cubs that lay dying because of their mother’s weakness.
